NEVADA VETERAN'S TAX EXEMPTION (NRS 361.090)

 

 The $1,500 or $1,750 assessed value Veteran’s Exemption is applicable to honorably discharged veterans of the Armed Forces of the United States who have six months residency in Nevada, served a minimum of 90 days of active duty, and who were assigned to active duty at some time between December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946; June 25 1950 to January 31, 1953; or between January 1, 1961 to May 7, 1975; or has served on active duty in connection with carrying out the authorization granted to the President of the United States in Public Law 102-1 (Persian Gulf Crisis which began August 2, 1990).

When filing for the first time, it is necessary to bring in a copy of your separation papers showing dates of entry and discharge.

Also eligible are veterans who served on active duty in connection with carrying out the authorization granted to the President of the United States

in Public Law 102-1, beginning August 2, 1990, and continuing until canceled by the United States Congress.

 

To apply for the Veteran's Exemption, you must have been a Nevada Resident for six months and provide the Assessor's Office with a copy of your honorable discharge, certificate of satisfactory service or separation documents (DD-214).

 

THE "DISABLED VETERAN" EXEMPTION

The Disabled Veteran’s Exemption is provided for veterans who have a permanent service connection disability of at least 60%.

The amount of the exemption is dependent on the degree of disability incurred:

 

60% to 79% disabled - $7,500 assessed value

80% to 99% disabled - $11,250 assessed value

100% disabled - $15,000 assessed value

 To apply for this exemption, you must be a six month resident of Nevada and furnish copies of your separation papers showing dates of entry and discharge and documentation of the percentage of service connected disability from the Veteran’s Administration. The surviving spouse of a disabled veteran who was eligible for this exemption at the time of his/her death may also be eligible to receive the benefits of this program.
